Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant will own the day-to-day accounting operations, consisting of both routine and non-routine duties with an emphasis on general ledger management, account analysis and reconciliation, ERP system oversight, month end close as well as special projects.  The Vice President of Accounting & IT will mentor to advance skills and career.

Daily Operations:

  • Oversee all accounting area, including accounts receivable, collections, purchasing, accounts payable, fixed assets, and inventory.
  • Perform accounting transactions as required by internal controls.
  • Analyze, reconcile, and report sales revenue, COGS, and inventory related activity.
  • Work with operations and management teams to ensure costs are accurately and timely captured within the ERP system.
  • Review payroll weekly time entry for proper management approval and completeness.
  • Assist and seek timely solutions to team member’s accounting/ERP system related questions and issues.

Monthly Financial Close:

  • Leading full cycle general ledger process to ensure complete and accurate financials, including journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis.  Complete monthly balance sheet audit.
  • Compile, maintain, and analyze supporting documentation of general ledger account balances.
  • Review financial data and trends for accuracy and reasonableness, investigating out of tolerance discrepancies.
  • Preparation and analysis of financial, management, and KPI reports.
  • Gather and analyze data for the budgeting and forecasting processes and reports.
  • Assist with internal and external audit processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial data.
  • Participate in the year-end financial audit process, including maintaining schedules and fulfilling audit requests.

Continuous Improvements:

  • Growth and development of leadership skills through self-initiative and/or by Vice President of Accounting & IT’s mentoring and recommended tools and resources.
  • Assist in streamlining, documenting and compliance of best practices, controls, and procedures. 
  • Champion complex initiatives such as implementation process improvements,
  • Assist in identifying and implementing under-utilized functions and tools of the ERP system, updating documentation, providing users with proper training tools and resources.
  • Automation of processes
  • Assist in data mining, warehousing, and ease of real-time access by current and future dashboards, reports, and other analysis tools.  Goal to provide management with real-time data that supports proactive decision-making.
  • Additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of accounting principles.
  • Knowledge and understanding of an ERP environment and how transactions interact.
  • Tech savvy and advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications with a focus on Excel; must be comfortable working with and analyzing large sets of data to root cause and solve problems.
  • Capability to work on extremely complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables.  Ability to provide solutions that are highly creative and to exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

  • BS/BA degree in accounting
  • Tech savvy and MS Excel super user; must be comfortable working with and analyzing large sets of data to root cause and solve problems
  • Related experience preferred
  • ERP system experience preferred
  • IT-related and software experience preferred
